What not to do when making a website
Here are a few things that I suggest you avoid when building a website.
> Bright colours - Try not to use too many bright colours, using colours that are easy on the eyes is always better. Using a style switcher with several different designs can help as different people have their own opinions on what is nice, so having a range of layouts with brighter colours and paler colours can help your website appeal to everyone.
> Small and hard to read fonts - Try to use a reasonable size of text on your site, not too small, not too big, as well as making sure your font is easy to read, do not use silly fonts or colours!
> Over cluttered - Make sure you do not over clutter your pages and menus, they should be clearly layed out so your site is easy to read, view and navigate.
> To much flash and animations - Do not go over the top with flash and animations, this can be annoying, keeping things simple is often better.
> No background music - One thing I cannot stand on websites is auto playing music when you enter a page, especially when you can't turn it off! If you want background music, either use a music player so the user can turn it on if they like, or put a clearly visible off button. This also applies for things such as videos.
> Silly pages - Try not to put any silly pages. For example 'do not click' pages (continuous pop-ups), although some of these can be funny, and some offer prizes for getting all the way through these can be very annoying especially if you do not know how to stop it. If you really want to use a page like this, make sure the user can actually exit it. You must keep in mind not everybody knows what these pages will contain, and will want an easy way to get out, having an endless loop of pop-ups is pointless and can just annoy people, which can put people off your site.
> Rude/Adult content - Self-explanatory, try and make your site suitable for most ages.
> Spelling/Grammar errors and 'chat speak' - Although having the odd spelling and grammar mistakes is fine, having a lot of them, or using a lot of 'chat speak' will make your site look unprofessional and put people off.
Well that is all for now, I will try and add some more later, if you have any suggestions for this page please contact me.
