Hacked Pokemon

Unfortunately this has become a very common thing in the Pokemon Games. This page explains a bit of where and how they are made, and how to spot them.

How they are made and where they come from

I won't go into detail of how this all works here, as I don't exactly want to promote this sort of thing. So I will just sum up the main methods.

The easiest and common way people obtain plain out silly and hacked Pokemon is through a device known as an 'Action Replay'. The device works by being plugged into the DS/Gameboy like a normal game, it then has a slot on the back of it for your chosen game (It is not just for Pokemon). Once loaded the 'Action Replay' offers you many cheat codes for your chosen game, in other cases it can be infinite lives, invincibility, infinite items etc, but in the case of Pokemon a common cheat is the 'hacking' a Pokemon's stats, such as raising them all to 999.
However this is just the basic use, as you can create of obtain your own Action Replay codes to create your own cheats that are not already on the Action Replay. Most people find these online, or use a computer program used 'Pokesav' that I will explain below.

Pokesav

Pokesav is simply a computer program you can download which allows the user to create Pokemon, choosing what ever stats, moves ability's ribbons etc they want, save them as a file, and then move them onto their game.

This is done in a few ways:

Action Replay - once the file is created, it can be converted into an action replay code.

Roms (An emulated version of the DS game) - Can be directly put onto a rom computer save file.

Global Trade System Method - There is a technique to obtain the Pokesav file through the GTS, without the use of an Action Replay.

How to spot a fake Pokemon

When using the above methods usually the Pokemon have certain flaws distinguishing them apart from legitimately obtained Pokemon.

Things to check for

Pokemon ID - Make sure the ID seems normal, anything like 000000 or 999999 is likely to be hacked.

Where it was obtained - If the Pokemon summary says it was obtained somewhere like mystery zone, or anywhere you could not normally obtain the Pokemon (or its pre-evolutions(, it is hacked.

Ability, moves etc - If the Pokemon knows any moves or has an ability the Pokemon could not normally have, then it is hacked.

Stats - Makes sure the stats are not above the maximum the Pokemon can have, if they are above, again it is hacked.

These are just some ideas to look out for, generally just look out for any thing unusual.

If you do not know what the Pokemon can actually learn or use, look up your Pokemon on here:

This is a datebase all about Pokemon.

Althought hacking is obviously not exactly the right thing to do many people do use Pokesav for creating Pokemon, but do so by making sure the Pokemon created is not given anything a normally obtained Pokemon could not have. For example the stats given will not go over 510 EVS (effort points) in total and 255 in any given stat, and all moves ability's etc are learn-able by that Pokemon. This is usually accepted by most battlers online, as it is done because the work required to obtain a perfect Pokemon for battling is very hard requiring a lot of breeding and EV training.
